Anna S. Basler, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Emporia, Kansas, surrounded by her loving family.
Anna was born on March 18, 1936, in Lena, Louisiana, the daughter of Joseph and Felicity (Vercher) Salard. She was one of the youngest of twelve siblings. Anna graduated from high school in Cloutierville, Louisiana. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Robert Basler. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and devotion, raising two children, Anna Fay and Richard, whom she cherished deeply. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Emporia. Anna was a dedicated volunteer for The American Red Cross and Newman Regional Health, where she could often be found greeting guests at the front desk or serving at the snack bar. Volunteering was a joy she shared with her husband Robert, and together they made a meaningful impact on their community.
Anna was also a talented and passionate quilter. Her handcrafted quilts became treasured gifts for all types of special occasions, weddings, births, and milestones. It was her way of wrapping her loved ones in warmth and care. She believed everyone should have a quilt, and she made it her mission to ensure they did.
A true lover of nature, Anna had a special fondness for hummingbirds. She found joy in watching them flit and flutter and even dedicated an entire room in her home to her favorite bird.
Anna is survived by her children, Anna Fay Basler and Richard Basler; grandchildren Mason Vickery, Megan (Matt) Levy, and Garrett Vickery; great-grandchildren Evelyn Levy, Addison Levy, and Maddox Vickery. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Basler, her parents, Joseph and Felicity Salard.
