Anna Statas Raissis, 103, of Montville, passed away on Saturday August 2, 2025 at her home. Born in Ahapsi, Naxos, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Antoni and Katerina Perialis. Anna emigrated from Greece to the United States to marry the man with whom she became acquainted with through letters and with whom she corresponded for six months before arriving in America. She was considered a "mail order bride." Her husband bought her a TWA ticket at the cost of $573.85 and she arrived on December 11, 1947. They were wed 6 weeks later in St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton.

A devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, she was predeceased by her first husband, the late John Raissis. She was remarried in 1975 to the late Stephen Statas. Also predeceased are two of her sons, Anthony and Michael Raissis. Anna is survived by her son Nicholas Raissis, and his wife Dale, step-children, Violet Annette Iasso and her husband, Sam, and Tom Statas and wife Barbara, along with 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also predeceased by 10 siblings.

Anna loved to laugh and she was a joy to all who knew her. Her days were spent cleaning her house, cooking her meals of fresh veggies, and walking throughout her condo village-yes, even at 103! She was the oldest resident to be found outside most days. She was truly an inspiration and an example of love, grace, kindness, and she lived a quiet life of simplicity and contentment.

She will be remembered for her strength and determination to make the best of every challenge that came into her life. Despite many tragedies, she held her head high and persevered with grace. Her easy smile never faltered and will never be forgotten. Though her life was humble, the effect she had on those she left behind is extraordinary. Anna will always hold a place in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday August 6 from 10-11:30 am. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home at 11:30 am followed by burial at Crest Haven Memorial Cemetery in Clifton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse International Relief, at www.samaritanspurse.org.
