Anne Janette Roehrs Gunderson, 57, of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away on June 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 7, 1968, in Jacksonville, Illinois, she was the daughter of Judy Ann Roehrs (née Nortrup) and the late David Warren Roehrs.
Anne was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and remained a devoted follower of Jesus Christ throughout her life. Her faith was the foundation of her calling to heal, teach, and serve others.
She proudly served her country in the United States Army Reserve, where she rose to the rank of First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1999.
A lifelong learner, Anne earned multiple degrees and certifications throughout her career, including an Associate Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing, a Post-Graduate Certificate as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. Beginning her professional journey as a Registered Nurse, she went on to serve as a Nurse Practitioner and ultimately retired as Associate Dean for Innovation in Clinical Education at Georgetown University Medical Center and Assistant Vice President of Education, Safety, and Quality at MedStar Health in 2020.
Over her 30-year career in medicine, Anne made lasting contributions to global health education in patient safety and quality improvement. She taught thousands of medical students and residents how to prevent medical errors and provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Her work and mentorship continue to impact lives around the world.
Outside of her professional life, Anne had many passions. She was an accomplished baker (famous for her dinner rolls) who competed at state and county fairs. She loved playing the piano and church organ, fishing and camping in Canada, exploring theme parks, attending baseball and ice hockey games, cuddling with her miniature schnauzers, and watching movies. She lived by one of her favorite quotes from Jedi Master Yoda in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back: "Do. Or do not. There is no try."
Her confirmation verse was also a guiding light in her life:
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." – Psalm 19:14
Anne is survived by her mother, Judy; her children, Jessica and Joseph; former husband, Robert; son-in-law, Michael; brother, Mark; sister-in-law, Laurie; niece and goddaughter, Elizabeth; goddaughter, Brittany; and best friend, Lisa.
