Born in Charlotte, NC, Annie was the daughter of Robert Emmet Bell and Virginia Mitchum Bell. A devoted member of First Baptist Church, she found fellowship and joy in Doris Law's Sunday School.
Annie served her community with compassion and dedication. She volunteered with the Victim's Advocate Office at the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, taught as a substitute at Berkeley High School, and brought joy and knowledge to others through the Berkeley County Book Mobile.
Known for her vivacious spirit, Annie had a deep love for life. She enjoyed her family, swimming in her pool, traveling the world-from Europe to Hawaii-exploring the open road in her RV, and dancing, even performing at the Spoleto Festival at the age of 70. Her fondness for rock and roll-especially Elvis Presley-reflected her fun-loving personality. She was also an animal lover and cherished her cats.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jaden Oliver Grooms; her siblings, Sue Rhem, Virginia Pulley, Louise Morris, and Thomas Bell.
Annie is survived by her children: Robert Gary Grooms (Laurie) of Pentwater, MI; Peggy Mahieu (Don) of Dallas, GA; and Donald Jaden Grooms (Edna) of Bonneau; her sister, Thelma Bell Ortega of Ft. Valley, GA; seven grandchildren: Brian Grooms (Leia), Nathan Grooms (Jill), Melissa Grooms, Jessica Grooms Mulder (Nolan), Emily Grooms Vila (Kalvin), Ashlee Mahieu Robertson (Ian), and Josh Mahieu (Amber); fifteen great-grandchildren who will remember her playful and loving nature; her dear cousin and friend Juanita Robbins; and several special neighbors and friends.
Funeral Services
Saturday, May 24, 2025 – 2:00 PM
Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner
Visitation: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM
Interment to follow at St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinopolis
