With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anthony Stephen Dorko affectionally known as "Tony" 83, of West Chicago, IL. He was called to his heavenly home on July 1st, 2025, at his home with his loved ones by his side.
Anthony was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 4, 1941 to Anthony and Aranka "Goldie" Dorko. He grew up with a generous spirit and unwavering curiosity. Tony graduated from Elmwood Park High School in 1959 and launched into his career as an avid auto mechanic. He started his business at a Citgo gas station, and eventually opened up W.A.R Automotive Engineering in Addison, IL with William and Robert, which he ran up until 2020. In between this time, he had met and married the love of his life Carol (Wojtowicz) Dorko, and together they had two sons Stephen "Steve", and David "Dave" Dorko. If he wasn't at home, you could find him at the shop working on a car, or giving his expertise on diagnosing an issue with any given vehicle. Tony earned his reputation for his integrity, reliability, and kindhearted nature. He was not just a business owner; he became a friend to everyone that walked in those doors.
Beyond his professional life, Tony was a devoted family man, and always putting them before himself. He is survived by his two children Stephen "Steve" Dorko (Kathy Dmytro), David "Dave" (Sue) Dorko. His grandchildren Stephen "Steve/Stevie" Dorko (Samantha Breininger), Brittany (Mitchell) Fisher. And his pride and joy his 4 great grandchildren; Pierce Anthony Fisher, Emery Lee Dorko, Julia Jane Fisher, and Blakelee Ann Fisher. He took pride in being a grandfather, and a great grandfather, he had the heart and soul of a child to the very end. He is also survived by his siblings; Ronald (Carol) Dorko, Robert (Cindy) Dorko, and Susan (Tom) Intravaia. Many nieces and nephews, and cousins. His closest friend Martin Elias and family, and his ex-daughter in law Jackie Lee.
Tony's passions extended beyond work and family, in his early years you could find him drag racing the streets and at tracks, boating, and snowmobiling. He was an avid collector of antiques and old cars. He loved birdwatching, and you could always find him watching the History Channel, Discovery Channel, or any show of restoring of old cars and homes. He loved to roam stores and flea markets filling his home with things he did not necessarily need, but it brought him so much simple joy and happiness. He also loved to give and gift to many organizations.
Tony will be remembered for his gentle smile, his thoughtfulness, and his willingness to lend a helping hand. He treasured the simple moments, and lived life to the absolute fullest. Anthony was a cherished son, brother, father grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many.
He is preceded in death by Carol Dorko, by his mother and father Aranka (Goldie) and Anthony Dorko, and by his sister Carolyn Saseknick.
There will be a celebration of life held for Tony at W.A.R Automotive in Addison, IL, on August 9th, 2025 at 12:00 PM.
