Arlene Cullen Obituary

Arlene Cullen, 100, passed away at her apartment in Benedict Village, St. Cloud, MN on June 12, 2025.
Arlene Marie Baumgarten was born on September 2, 1924 to Gertrude (Hans) and Richard Baumgarten at their home in Durbin Township. She grew up on the family farm with her three siblings. She graduated from Casselton High School in 1942. She did secretarial and office work in Detroit Lakes, MN and Fargo, ND before her marriage.
Arlene married George Cullen on June 26, 1947 at Canaan Moravian Church. After their marriage, they moved to Sheldon, ND where they farmed. Arlene grew large vegetable gardens, raised chickens and cared for baby lambs especially ones who needed bottle feeding. She was active in the Sheldon Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
In 1978 Arlene and George retired from farming and moved to Lisbon. In retirement they both enjoyed crafting and craft shows. Arlene's beautiful cross stitch creations are enjoyed by many. Retirement also gave them time to travel which they enjoyed with their camper.
After George's death in 1989, Arlene continued to live in Lisbon enjoying time with friends, pinochle at the senior center and the Lisbon public library.
She moved to St. Cloud, MN in December 2020 to be closer to family. She lived independently in Benedict Village until her death.
As the longest living member in her family, she was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, sister Elaine Baumgarten, brothers Hilbert (Jordis) Baumgarten and Donald (Bobbie) Baumgarten.
She is survived by her children Jane (David) Mastroianna, Margaret (Douglas) Weisgram and Richard (Bridget) Cullen; six grandchildren - Troy (Jessica) Weisgram, Alissa Weisgram, Mark (Jasmine) Mastroianna, James (Valerie) Mastroianna, Garrett (Hayley) Cullen and Geoffrey Cullen; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon. Arlene's service will be live streamed below. Burial will be at Sheldon City Cemetery.
