Arlene Nancy DePas ObituaryNiagara, WI – Arlene Nancy DePas, 85, of Niagara, WI passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara, WI.
She was born on March 18, 1939, in Iron Mountain, MI, to the late John and Elfie (Anderson) Erickson.
Arlene graduated from Niagara High School in 1957. During her high school years, Arlene was involved in many extracurricular activities like key club and student council. She did well in all subjects but was quite profound in English. She was well read, spoke excellent English, and had a large vocabulary of words she would often use that most didn't understand. In fact, most people couldn't believe she was from northeastern Wisconsin because of her excellent spoken English. She certainly didn't possess the unique "yooper" accent.
Arlene had many friends throughout school and remained in contact with several of her "girl group" of friends. They would get together once a month rotating houses for those who stayed in the area. They kept this up for over 50 years!
After high school, Arlene married Louis DePas who was a classmate, and they made Niagara their home for most of their married years, raising four children. Arlene was an excellent homemaker and was very much involved with her children's school events. In her younger adult years, Arlene and Louie played coed volleyball. Arlene was a Girl Scout Leader, and involved with her church teaching Sunday school classes.
Arlene later in life, met Fran, her special companion, where they did a lot of traveling hauling a camper/trailer. Arlene felt blessed to be a part of Fran's camp life where she enjoyed 4-wheeling and snowmobiling. During this same time period, Arlene worked at The Drug Store in both the pharmacy and cosmetics departments. She has fond memories of the pharmacy gang and their famous Christmas parties. She was truly grateful as to how the pharmacy employees took her in; they embraced her as "family" and as one of them.
More than anything, Arlene loved her family and her grandchildren. She always took so much time and effort to find the "perfect" gift for each and everyone, especially the grandkids during Christmas time. An ornament every year was a must as it was a special way to have a keepsake from "gramma."
She is survived by her children, Greg DePas, Jeff (Teresa) DePas, Kelly Rumpf; grandchildren Sarah (Kevin) Beilman, Desmond (Ashley) DePas, Dominique DePas, Calvin DePas, Landin (Nora) DePas, Madisin DePas and Benjamin Rumpf; and great-grand children Cameron, Colin and Carter DePas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving companion Fran LaFave, her sister Alice Zee, brother-in-law Thomas Zee, a son Douglas DePas and three grandsons, Cody DePas, Austin DePas and Eastin DePas. We need to also mention her best and longtime friend Kathy Michaud of over 70 years.
A visitation for Arlene will be held Friday, December 20, 2024, from 10am to 11:30am at Riverside United Methodist Church in Niagara. A memorial service will follow at 11:30am with Pastor Debra Spira officiating.
Even though Arlene's stay at Maryhill was very short, only two months, her family would like to thank the staff there for their care and compassion they extended towards her.
