Ishpeming, MI - Arthur A. Howard, age 88, longtime Ishpeming and Negaunee resident passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Arthur was born in Traverse City, on February 18, 1936, a son of the late Bernice (Wise) and E. Arthur Howard. Art was a graduate of the Leeland High School, Class of 1954. Art furthered his education at Michigan State University where he received his bachelor's degree, and Eastern Michigan University where he received his MBA. Art served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War period and was stationed in Germany. Art owned and operated the Howard Oil Co. in Ishpeming for 31 years, retiring in 2005. Art was a longtime member of Mitchell United Methodist Church, The Wawonowin Country Club, Ishpeming Noon Kiwanis Club and the Greenwood American Legion Post #114.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Howard of Negaunee; a daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Stein of Cedarburg, WI; grandchildren - Trevor Howard, Madeline and Samantha Stein; two sisters, Nancy Priest of Lake Leelanau and Betty (Bill) Keissel of Suttons Bay, brother, Bob (Sharon) Howard of Lake Leelanau, along with numerous nieces & nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kristol Simpson and sister Donna Schaub.
Per Art's wishes, cremation will take place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Lake Leelanau.
