Arthur Christ Welk, the son of Christ and Amelia (Ruff) Welk, was born on April 16, 1937, on the family farm south of Kulm, ND. Art was the seventh of eight children, joining his sisters, Annetta, Leona, Frieda, and Nora, as well as brothers Norma and Walter. Kenny was born some years after Art. Art had various jobs during his lifetime. He most enjoyed driving a truck over the road and locally. Later in life, he drove a truck for area farmers during harvest. He also enjoyed being a ranch hand, working on ranches, taking care of livestock, and being outdoors.
Owning Percheron horses, covered wagons, and chuck wagons was a hobby that Art deeply enjoyed, and he was very proud of. He participated in parades and was involved in wagon trains. Art enjoyed going for coffee and the visiting that took place during coffee.
Art is survived by two sons, Clayton Welk of Miller, SD, and Bryon (Margaret) Welk of North Platte, NE; two daughters, Fay (Brad) Manning of Miller, SD, and Charlene (Todd) Tilden of Canton, SD; his grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; his brother, Ken (Marilyn) Welk of Mandan, ND; many nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Annetta, Leona, Frieda, and Nora; an infant, Lenora; brothers, Walter and Norman; granddaughter, Amy Manning; and grandsons, Daniel Powell and Seth Welk.
