Clay Center, NE resident ArVera (Aufdenkamp) Schueler, 90, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2025, at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center, NE with Pastors Bev Hays and Stuart Davis officiating. Interment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, NE. Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center, NE and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.
ArVera was born November 6, 1934, in her family's home outside of Kenesaw, NE to Henry and Rosina (Steiner) Aufdenkamp.
ArVera attended Shiloh grade school and graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1952. Immediately after high school, she went to work as a bookkeeper for S.E. Smith & Sons Lumber Co., where she remained until 1977.
On September 9, 1967, she married Karl Schueler in Riverside, CA. They made their home in Grand Island, NE and together had two children.
In 1977 they moved to Clay Center, NE where ArVera continued her work as a bookkeeper for John Burklund at Clay Center Service Station. Working for John for 37 years, ArVera became close with John's family and has remained so even in her final days.
ArVera lived her life serving others. From founding a music booster club at Clay Center High School to providing thousands of pounds of potato salad over the years to various community events, ArVera believed in meeting the needs of her community and those around her. Additionally, she was an active and committed member of the UCC Church, Mills-Schroeder American Legion Auxiliary Post #87 in Clay Center, and also the Eagles Club.
ArVera is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and John Knight of Clay Center, NE; son, Kent Schueler and partner Heather Goergen Rose and child Ayla Ferguson of Clay Center, NE; honorary daughter, Andi Shell of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Elsa and Joel Knight of Lincoln, NE; Nikole Shell and partner Eliad Weston of Clay Center, NE; and great-grandson, Elliot Weston; along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Schueler; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Jack Kistler; brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Leva Aufdenkamp; brothers-in-law and wives, David and Billee Schueler; Wesley and Opal Schueler; and Duane and Darlene Schueler.
