Athena Gearhart Obituary

Athena A. Gearhart, 69, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 1, 1955, in Greensburg, Indiana, the daughter of William Louis Pearl, Sr. and Jo Ann (Noe) Tichenor. She was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a 1974 graduate of South Decatur High School. She was a member of the Westport Christian Church. Athena enjoyed her computer, crocheting, doing word searches, walking her dog and spending time with her family. She is survived by her parents, William Louis Pearl, Sr. and Jo Ann (Marvin) Tichenor both of Greensburg; her sisters, Deanna K. (Rick) Denney of Greencastle and Stephanie Jo Ogle of Greensburg; brothers, William L. Pearl, Jr. of Greensburg and David A. (Darlene) Pearl of Westport; grandsons, Seth M. and Keigan A. Pearl and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and her son, Allen L. Pearl. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor George Willette officiating. Burial will follow at Shirk Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, from 11:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Westport Christian Church through the funeral home.
