Carrie Walker Obituary
Deaconess Carrie Mae Walker left this life peacefully at her home in Bloomfield, CT, on Sunday, September 14, 2025. She was born on November 26, 1946, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, to the late Mary Ivory Watkins Kennedy and was also raised by her beloved grandparents, Cora Stevenson and William Stevenson.
Carrie was a devoted deaconess at Hopewell Baptist Church, where she worshipped faithfully for decades. She poured her time, energy, and heart into the life of the church - serving as a member of the Jordan Choir, Sunday School, and faithfully working on various committees and boards. Carrie was also one of the first members of the Women of Hope Ministry, where she remained dedicated and steadfast. She was a rock, a prayer warrior, and a safe place for so many. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Carrie lived her faith out loud and poured love into everyone around her.
She was the kind of woman who lit up every room she walked into. She always wore her flashy and stylish glasses and was always dressed to the nines in a bright and beautiful outfit. Carrie spoke with wisdom, carried herself with grace, and never hesitated to tell the truth in love. Every morning at 6:30 a.m., you could find her on the prayer line with her "Sisterin," calling names and calling down blessings. If you knew her, you knew your name was being lifted up and just how powerful those prayers were.
A true fighter and survivor, Carrie overcame breast cancer, stayed in remission, and remained a fierce advocate for awareness and hope until her very last days. She made sure to live life to its fullest, traveling the world with her friends and her honey, Andrew, dancing on cruise ships, and soaking in God's goodness. She often said she knew she had God's "favor" and wanted to use every ounce of it before leaving this earth.
She was also a dedicated sister. As the second-oldest, she helped raise some of her younger brothers and sisters and became their guiding light. To her siblings, she was not only a sister but a best friend, and their bond remains unbreakable.
Carrie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Andrew Lewis Walker; and by her mother and grandparents; as well as four brothers: Sammy Kennedy, Alexander Kennedy, Larry Kennedy (Susan), and Howard Kennedy.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her three children- daughter, Robie Walker Gaston (Tyrone), and two sons, Andrew D. Walker (Dianna) and Jeffrey D. Walker (Danna); three sisters, Ruby Nell Irby, Karen Kennedy, and Brenda Kennedy; and a brother, Tyrone Kennedy (Stephanie); seven grandchildren, Joshua J. Walker (Emily), Arvia D. Walker, Shatyka B. Walker, Khiree T. Smith Walker (Adrienne), Shamika R. Gaston, Andrew D. Walker Jr., and Kayla D. Walker; two great-grandchildren, Dylan A. Smith and Marrion J. Gaston-Stone; her bonus daughter, Desiree Lowe; her bonus grandchild, Cheyenne Salmon; and her bonus great-grandchildren Ileana, Emory, Laiyah and Kiara. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly and who were loved by her with a whole heart.
Carrie Walker's life was one of faith, joy, and purpose. She left her family and friends with so many lessons and memories. We will miss her laugh, her smile, and her small stature but mighty presence. Though she is no longer with us in physical form, her legacy of grace and mercy will live through each of us every day.
