Audrey Anita Oulman, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Riceville, Iowa on July 2, 2025.
Audrey was born on September 29, 1928 to Onie Mayo and Genevieve "Viva" (Julius) Newhouse. She grew up in the McIntire area with her parents and seven siblings. Audrey graduated from McIntire Schools in 1946. She obtained education for her Limited Elementary Teachers Certificate in June of 1948 from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. Her teaching career included time spent in Lime Springs, Bailey, McIntire and Riceville schools.
While attending college, she began courting her future husband, Ronald Oulman. The couple married on December 24, 1948 at the Methodist Church in McIntire. She and Ronald resided on the farm for 29 years before moving to Riceville in 1977. Audrey was widowed when Ronald passed away on December 7, 2013 after nearly 65 years of marriage.
Audrey was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. She and her mother Viva spent many years singing together at church. She also sang at many funerals. Her faith was evident and expressed in her joyful singing of hymns throughout her life.
Audrey worked 25 plus years at the Riceville Nursing Home as a CMA. She taught many new aides during her time there who commented "she was a great teacher, and we had fun!" She thoroughly loved her job and the residents she cared for. Even after her retirement in 2003, she continued to attend sing-alongs with the residents and volunteered to take them to appointments. Audrey was a hospice volunteer and a member of the Red Hats Society. She also assisted the community at the voting sites during many elections.
Audrey's greatest joy was her family. She showed unconditional love to all her immediate and extended family. She strived to be a peacekeeper for all. Her hospitality and love were demonstrated when anyone stopped by to visit. She would stop what she was doing to greet them with a smile, a hug and a "can I get you something to eat". Audrey also loved to travel, especially to Massachusetts, to see her sisters and extended family. She made many trips there throughout the years as well as enjoying their visits to Iowa.
Survivors include her children: Duane Oulman, Keith (Lynn Doane) Oulman, Roni Rae (Steve) Anderlik all of Riceville; Linda (Ed) Klimesh of Protivin, IA, Sue Rawhouser of Elma, IA, Michele (Jerry) Rosenblad of Stewartville, MN and son-in-law Joe Bouska of Fort Atkinson, IA. In addition, she was blessed and survived by 22 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren (plus 1 on the way) and 11 great-great-grandchildren (plus 1 on the way) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, parents, seven siblings: Leslie, Paul, Maxine, Glendale, Darline, Bill and Darrell; daughter Lavonne Bouska; granddaughters: Jodi Oulman, Darci Rawhouser and Kendra O'Brien; great-grandson Marshall Luppke; son-in-law Darrel Rawhouser and a daughter-in-law Dee Oulman.
