BARBARA ANN BAKER

Essex- Barbara A. Baker, 88, died on July 21, 2025, at the McClure Miller Respite House surrounded by loved ones.

She was born June 5, 1937, in Burlington, Vermont the daughter of Albert Leo Ploof Sr. and Evelyn (Woodard) Desautel. Barbara married Andrew T. Baker on November 14, 1953. They had 7 children together, 6 girls and 1 boy.

Barbara was a devoted homemaker, skilled household manager, talented cook, and dedicated wife and mother. She was an avid gardener, she enjoyed tending to her yard and lawn. She loved sitting outside on her swing, listening to the birds, and enjoying the fresh air. She loved taking long car rides with her husband, bargain hunting at garage sales, and visiting their camp in Belvidere. Barbara also had a passion for accumulating treasures. Her collections included Elvis Presley memorabilia, porcelain dolls, and various knick-knacks.

Barbara was predeceased by her grandparents; her parents Evelyn (Woodard) Desautels and Albert Leo Ploof Sr; her husband Andrew T Baker; her daughter Lisa Jane Baker; brother Richard (Dicky) Ploof, and her sister-in-law Nancy Ploof.

She is survived by her children: Carolyn Barber and her husband Jim, Karen Johnson, Linda Baker, Vicki Menard and her husband Danny, Jane Rushford and her husband Rick, Andrew Baker and his wife Patty; her siblings: Albert Leo Ploof Jr, Lawrence Ploof, Joe Ploof and his wife Vicky, Rick Ploof, Linda Ploof and her husband Mike; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.

We would like to acknowledge Barbara's daughters Linda Baker and Carolyn Barber for being her caregivers for many years, especially after the passing of her husband. We also extend our thanks and gratitude to our family members for helping out when needed, the VNA Home Health & Hospice, and the McClure Miller Respite House for all being so kind and giving Barbara the best care and support possible.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 25, from 10am to 12pm at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00pm at St Joseph-Our Lady of the Lake Parish Church, 185 US Route 2 in Grand Isle with burial to follow in Grand Isle Village Cemetery.

Barb and Andy were the nicest neighbors anyone could have. Always friendly, ready to chat and always a wave coming and going. Her children were there for them always. Will miss them both.
