Barbara Carpenter Obituary

Barbara J. Carpenter, 92, of Bloomfield, beloved wife of the late Calvin Lee "Cal" Carpenter, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2024. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on November 16, 1931, the daughter of the late, Frank and Margaret (Lambrecht) Jordan. Barbara attended schools in St. Paul and was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School. She received her bachelor's degree in music, in 1953 from the University of Minnesota. She was a member of Sigma Alpa lota, Masquers and Zeta Phi Eta, U Theater and the Chamber singers.
Barbara was a Music teacher who taught for many years in Melvindale, Michigan, a Detroit suburb, before meeting and marrying her husband Cal. They lived for a number of years in New Jersey prior to moving to Connecticut.
Barbara was a splendid artist and singer; she looked for and supported beauty and art and the goodness of humanity throughout her life. She was involved with Simsbury Light Opera Company, where she participated in several Gilbert & Sullivan performances, singing in the choir and assisted with creating props backstage. For many years, she also sang in Church of St. Ann's choir and the church's "A Holiday Cabaret" in 1994. Barbara was an artist of many mediums and an extremely creative person who loved passing her love of music and arts onto her children.
She is survived by her sons, Phillip B. Carpenter, Paul A. Carpenter, Christopher G. Carpenter, with whom she resided and also compassionately and lovingly cared for Barbara in recent years, Chad B. Carpenter, and Dustan A. Carpenter, her daughter, Monica D. Zanini, her grandchildren, Alexander, Breann, Colin and Jayden and her great-grandson Beau Carpenter.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Cal, and infant daughter Barbara Lee.
Barbara and Cal will be privately laid to rest with full Military Honors in the CT State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
