It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Barbara Davenport, a woman whose warmth and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Born on April 12, 1941, in Indianapolis, IN, to Paul and Anna Hornaday, Barbara spent her life creating a beautiful tapestry of memories that her loved ones will cherish forever.
Barbara's life was a testament to her unwavering dedication and love for her family, friends, and her beloved Michael, whom she married on October 8, 1960. She was a loyal and tireless administrator at the Board of Law Exam, and her work was always marked by a level of commitment and passion that was truly inspiring. However, it was her life outside of work where her radiant personality truly shone. Known for her masterful crocheting, delightful card games, and her love for dancing, Barbara's zest for life was infectious. Her passion for gardening and fishing was only rivaled by her love for water and slalom skiing. An avid dog lover, she raised and bred boxers, proudly showing them at Westminster, England, and throughout the Midwest. She was an integral member of the Central Indiana Boxer Club and served as the President of the PTO at Walnut Grove and Cicero Order of the Eastern Star.
Barbara leaves behind her loving husband, Mike; her sons, Paul (Leslie) Davenport and David Davenport. She is also survived by her dear grandson, Joseph Davenport; sister, Carolyn Renfro; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Hornaday, and her brother, Paul Hornaday. Barbara's life was a testament to this sentiment, and her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew her.
Please join us to celebrate Barbara's life on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, located at 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, Indiana, 46034. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, and the memorial service will commence at 5:00 pm.
In honor of Barbara's vibrant life and spirit, we encourage everyone to share their favorite memories and photos of her on the memorial page. Her life was a tapestry of beautiful moments, and we invite you to be a part of immortalizing her in our hearts and minds.
