Barbara Heinemeyer Friedrich passed away on July 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 74.
Born and raised in Gonzales, Texas, Barbara spent her entire life in the town she loved. She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1969 and started her career at DuBose Insurance Agency before finding her true calling in public service. Barbara dedicated many years to the City of Gonzales, working in roles that focused on growing and supporting the local economy. Her commitment to making Gonzales a better place to live was more than a job - it was her passion.
Barbara was especially passionate about the Gonzales Main Street Foundation, where she devoted countless hours to preserving the city's charm and strengthening its future. She was especially proud of the Summer Concert Series, which brought the community together through music and celebration. She found peace in the Butterfly Gardens in downtown Gonzales, a quiet space that brought her joy and reminded her of all that's beautiful in the world.
Barbara's warmth, dedication, and steadfast love for her town will be remembered by many. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, and her absence will be felt not only by her family but by the classmates and friends who continued to gather with her monthly at Mi Lupita, a tradition filled with laughter, camaraderie, and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Heinemeyer Sr. and Roberta Bauer Heinemeyer.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Erica Friedrich of Cedar Park, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Friedrich and Wes Stephenson of Grandview, Texas; and her cherished grandchildren, Lauren and Hayden Friedrich and Cutter Stephenson. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Marvin and Elvira Heinemeyer Jr. of Gonzales, and her sister and husband, Cheryl and Tom Simpson of Leander, along with many extended family and dear friends.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home on July 19, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., and the celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers include, Lauren Friedrich, Hayden Friedrich, Cutter Stephenson, Gary Schroeder and Dane Needham. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gonzales Main Street, Butterfly Gardens, 305 St. Lawrence Street, Gonzales, TX, in honor of Barbara's enduring commitment to the town she loved.
