Barbara Bransford Lacy passed away at Matthews Glen Retirement Community in Matthews, North Carolina, on June 25, 2025. Mrs. Lacy was born on December 8, 1925, in Cohasset, Virginia, to the late Hunter McGuire Bransford and Thelma Harwell Bransford.

Mrs. Lacy attended Fluvanna County Public Schools, graduating from the high school in 1943. She then attended Averitt College and graduated in 1945. While at Averitt, she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. After Averitt, Mrs. Lacy attended the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1969, Mrs. Lacy graduated from the University of Virginia with a Master's Degree in Education.

Mrs. Lacy married Evan Hard Lacy, Jr. on August 13, 1949, and that marriage produced two sons, Evan H. Lacy, III, and Hunter Bransford Lacy. Mrs. Lacy taught in the Fluvanna County Public School System for many years, in both elementary and secondary schools, and retired in 1988 as a Guidance Counselor at Fluvanna County High School. Mrs. Lacy was a lifelong member of Fork Union Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Director, WMU President, Bicentennial Celebration Chairperson, Deacon, and Trustee. Mrs. Lacy was a member of the Point of Fork Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution. Mrs. Lacy had previously been named an Honorary Member of the Alumni Association at Fork Union Military Academy.

Mrs. Lacy was preceded in death by Hunter McGuire Bransford and Thelma Harwell Bransford (parents), Evan H. Lacy, Jr. (husband), Evan H. Lacy, III (son), Ulmo Shannon (Sonny) Randle (informally adopted son), Constance Bransford (sister), and Isabelle Bransford Ksanda (sister).

Mrs. Lacy is survived by Hunter Bransford Lacy (son), and his wife, Wendy P. Lacy; Susan Lacy (daughter-in-law); Russell Lacy, Alicia Lacy Neumann, and Jennifer Dolan (grandchildren); Chloe Pate-Lacy, Xander Dolan, Rocco Dolan, and Theodora Dolan (great-grandchildren); Judith Randle (sister); Patricia Allen (sister); nine nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be held at Fork Union Baptist Church, 4745 James Madison Hwy, Fork Union, VA 23055, on Sunday, June 29, 2025, with visitation at 2:00 PM and the service at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lacy is in the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
