Baron Vance McGhee, 78, of Stonewall, Oklahoma, passed away on July 17, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1946, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to James Calvin and Estelle (Wallace) McGhee.
Baron attended North Texas University starting in 1966 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He served honorably in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 with C Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Division. A proud veteran, he earned numerous commendations for his service, including the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Valiantry with Palm, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device, Combat Infantry Badge, and Sharpshooter and Marksman qualifications with various firearms.
Following his military service, Baron built a career in the electronics industry as a Quality Control Manager for Mostek and Harris in Dallas, Texas. He was also a dedicated supporter of veterans, serving as a mentor in the Wounded Warrior Program. He frequently donated to numerous Native American Tribes and Animal Rescues.
Baron had a deep love for the outdoors and a spirit of adventure. He enjoyed backpacking in the Rocky Mountains, photography, collecting antique firearms and knives, studying shamanism and martial arts, reading, and most of all, spending time with his family and his loyal dog Willow on his farm. He was known for his delicious homemade fantasy fudge and tomato macaroni soup. He taught others the value of hard work and to always thank God for good days. He loved his country fiercely and believed America was the most awesome place to live on this planet. His greatest joy in life was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Angelic Danielle Spaan and her husband Jason Louis Spaan of Stonewall, Oklahoma; his beloved grandson, Gage Nathaniel Clement of Stonewall; His Sister Barbara Jenkins of Arlington, Texas and Bonnie McGhee-Thomson of Rowlett, Texas; niece, Christie Thomson and husband Drew of Rowlett, TX; nephew, Sam Rogers and wife Lauren of Arlington, TX and a host of other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home Chapel.
