Beatrice ("Bebe, Bea") Clark Brown
January 21,1924 – July 10, 2025
Bebe passed away July 10th after a long illness in Silver Spring, MD.
Born in Piqua, Ohio, she was the second of three daughters for the late Florence and Horace Clark of Alfred, ME. Throughout their lives, the three sisters were called "the Clark Girls". They loved time walking, finding shells on the Maine beaches and in later years playing cards.
During the Great Depression, the family moved to Sanford, ME, where their father took a position as the Superintendent for the Sanford Water District. In 1941, Bebe graduated from Sanford High School and was a Majorette in the high school band. In 1945, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. In March 1943, she joined and was elected to President of UNH Alpha Tau Chapter, Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity. Later she was honored as a 50-year member Chapter Board Member.
In March 1946, she married her high school boyfriend, the late Howard W. Brown. They were married for 62 years. After his retirement, they moved numerous times around New England and Florida. March 2014, her beloved husband, Howard, passed away, 10 days after moving to Exeter, NH.
She built a life both around family and a professional career. Her first job was at Sanford Mills in the accounting department. Then a middle-school math teacher, a Fortran programmer for General Electric; a system analyst at banks and she retired from Lee County in Fort Myers, Florida. What she enjoyed most was teaching calculus & statistics at Nasson College in Springvale, ME. During this time, her hobbies included: a volunteer, knitting hats for the Maine Medical Center, "Hats for Kids with Cancer", sewing, baking, playing cards, entertaining, walking on the beaches, reading and church. Retired, she enjoyed ancestral research and became a member of Daughters of the American Revolution; and was elected,Treasurer of the Exeter Chapter (NH). When she moved to Maryland, she became an Associate member of the Chevy Chase Chapter (MD). She was also a member of Piscataqua Pioneers & First Settlers of Newburyport, MA.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Annie Brown (son-in-law Paul Gawchik). She leaves behind: Kirsten Enzinger (husband Larry) and their daughter Sandy Sanders (husband David); Richard M. Moroney (wife Karen), Anne Moroney and Jean Binswanger (husband Harry); nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Interfaith Chapel, 3680 S Leisure World Blvd, Silver Spring, MD on Sunday, September 28th @ 2:00pm. Burial service will be held at the Oakdale Cemetery, 127 Twombley Rd, Sanford, ME on Friday, October 3rd at 10:00 am.
