Bernard Joseph Cadden, affectionately known to friends and family as Bernie, passed away on June 29, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on December 4, 1950, in Revere, MA, to the late Owen Patrick Cadden and Anna Mary Pistone Cadden, he was the beloved husband of Kimberly Mann Cadden.
Bernie lived a life that touched many with his kindness, generosity, and a spirit that embraced everyone he met. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bernie continued his dedication to service as a locksmith with Civil Service. Throughout his life, he remained supportive of veteran issues, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to those who served.
With a heart as big as his smile, Bernie was known as "Tater" to those closest to him and was affectionately dubbed the "Peach Man" at Morris Farm Market, where his easygoing nature and thoughtful demeanor left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. Bernie found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was casting a line while fishing or simply being outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of nature. His love for life and others was evident in his every action, making him a beloved figure in his community.
In addition to his wife, Kim, Bernie is survived by a sister, Cathy Hamilton; four brothers, Ronald Stretar, Vincent "Darrell" Stretar, Anthony "Ant" Stretar, and John Stretar; a stepson; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Les Cadden.
No services are planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Currituck Animal Shelter, 153 Courthouse Road, Suite 900, Currituck, NC 27929, honoring Bernie's love and compassion for all living creatures.
Although Bernie is no longer with us, his legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
