Bert Russell Obituary

Bert Thomas "Tom" Russell, age 70, of Hillsdale, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at his home. He was born on June 2, 1955, in Sturgis, to James and Marilyn (Nye) Russell. He married Brenda Nantau on October 6, 1980, and she preceded him in death on May 8, 2023.
In his youth, Tom's dedication to Boy Scout's earned him the honorable accomplishment of Eagle Scout by the age of 18. He graduated from Hudson High School in the Class of 1973 and went on to pursue a Journeyman's Card in Tool and Die, which he received from Trine University, formerly known as Tri-State College. As his career progressed, he and his wife Brenda began B.B. Machine Inc., expanding from Hillsdale into Reading. Tom's work was an important part of his life's satisfaction. Additionally, Tom committed over 40-years as a member of the Elk's Lodge 1575, where he served many roles, including Exalted Ruler. In his later years he also became a member of the Hillsdale American Legion. He spent his free time helping friends and restoring hot-rods, his favorite of which was his 1957 Chevy.
Tom is survived by two children, James (Jasmine) Russell, and Christy Russell; one sister, Casey (Bill) Reece; and many friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 43 years, Brenda.
A celebration of life for Tom Russell will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM at the Hillsdale Elks Lodge. Arrangements have been entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
