Bertha Jane Moore Gallop, 89, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.
Ms. Gallop was born in Camden County on December 26, 1935, and was the daughter of the late John Raymond Moore and Hilda Harrison Moore Sawyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Story, sons, Richard and Raymond Gallop and Larry Connie; sisters, Barbara Sawyer and Nell Chapman, a brother, Delbert Harrison, a great-grandson, and by a great-great-granddaughter.
A homemaker, she was a member of Old Trap Methodist Church in the Old Trap community of Camden County. Among her many enjoyments in life included her love of fishing, quilting, and spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was known to be able to make a person smile, laugh, and cry, all in the same sentence.
Surviving are her four daughters, Peggy Connie (her caregiver as well) of Elizabeth City, Charlene Rose, Wanda Lee Williams, and Carol Jones, all of Rocky Mount; 26 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Old Trap Methodist Church Cemetery. The family kindly asks for no visitors at the residence and invites everyone to visit with them at the gravesite immediately following the service on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to assist the family with medical and final expenses.
