Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edmonds Funeral Home - Jonesboro on Jul. 8, 2025.
Elizabeth "Beth" Estelle Walker Culpepper, our precious mom and Mama Beth, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday night, July 7, 2025, at Jackson Parish Hospital in
Jonesboro, Louisiana, at the age of 83.
Beth was born on September 22, 1941, to Luther and Nellie Walker in Hodge, Louisiana. After graduating from Jonesboro Hodge High School, she attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Upon earning her bachelor's degree in nursing, she became a registered nurse. On May 29, 1964, she married Bobby L. Culpepper following an extraordinary courtship. Bobby sent Beth anonymous love letters through John Bailey, who was traveling the country playing baseball and basketball for LSU. John would mail the letters from all different cities and states, keeping Beth in suspense as to whom the letters were from.
After their marriage, Beth became employed as an RN at Baton Rouge General Hospital while Bobby earned his law degree from LSU. When Bobby finished law school, they moved back to her beloved community of Walker, Louisiana. She worked at Jackson Parish Hospital while Bobby was starting his law career. After Bobby's law practice was established, Beth was able to focus on taking care of her family.
In the years following, Beth loved traveling with her friends and family. She also devoted a lot of her time and energy to working in her yard, as evidenced by the fact that she allowed no one else to mow or trim her yard until just a few months ago. Another favorite pastime of Beth's was keeping up with the '59ers, which were her classmates from the 1959 graduating class of JHHS. She always looked forward to sharing meals with them. She was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she served on numerous ministry teams, assisted with the monthly Love Feast and His Hands ministry, and participated in WMU.
Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby L. Culpepper, infant son, Nathan Bradley Culpepper, and parents, Luther and Nellie Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Loyce Culpepper Carroll, and husband, Clay, of
Jonesboro, LA, and her son, William Todd Culpepper, and wife, Laura, of Quitman, LA. Beth also dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many hours following them to sporting events, of which she loved, and supported them in all walks of their life. She had five grandchildren, Sallie Fenn (husband – Anthony) of Quitman, LA, Syble Deal (husband – Brian) of Quitman, LA, Elizabeth Carroll Joynor (husband – Brandon) of
Jonesboro, LA, Jeffrey Clay Carroll, Jr. of Austin, TX and Brandon Loyce Carroll, of New Orleans, LA. She also had five great-grandchildren, Cam Deal, Cali Deal, Addison Fenn, Allie Fenn, and Caden Joynor. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Walker, and wife, Wynell, of Lucky, LA.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Friday, July 11 at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brian McAllister, and Rev. Wayne Morrow officiating. Rev. Trey Etheridge will bring a musical selection. Burial will follow in Transport Cemetery.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Jeff Carroll, Brandon Carroll, Brandon Joynor, Brian Deal, Bob Davis, Anthony Fenn and Cam Deal.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the attentive care given by Dr. Andy Smith, Dr. George Smith, and Dr. Billy Smith of Ruston, LA, Dr. Scott Barron and staff of Monroe, LA, and Dr. Ed Mariano and Candice Leach, FNP-C, of
Jonesboro, LA.
