Betty Jean Byassee, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025. She was born on August 5, 1933, to William and Betty (Atkinson) Howren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 66 years, Jerry Byassee; her son, Kirby Byassee; and her sister, Madeline Porter.
Betty had a kind heart and a love for the simple joys in life. She enjoyed reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and especially loved spending time with her family and welcoming visitors into her home. She married the love of her life, Jerry Byassee, on January 1, 1949, and together they shared an incredible journey filled with love and devotion.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church Idabel since 1963, Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She lived with grace, compassion, and a warm spirit that touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her sons, Kip Byassee and wife Debra, and Kerry Byassee and Lorie Travis; her brother, Brent Howren; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Clardy Funeral Service Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at First Baptist Church Idabel, with Bro. Jon Hicks officiating.
Betty's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in all who knew and loved her.
