Betty passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Alpine Village Nursing Home in Verdigre. Memorials may be directed to her family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in Spencer.

Betty (Hambek) Mashino, daughter of Libia (Nemec) and William Hambek, was born September 15, 1937 in Spencer, NE. She attended school in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 1955. Betty received her teaching degree from Wayne State College by mailing her assignments back and forth with her professors. She taught at District 27 northeast of Spencer, and drove the school bus.

On June 15, 1960, Betty was married to Cecil Mashino. To this union, three children were born: Carla, Dustin, and Tammy.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dorcas Society, & the Gross Women's Club. She also enjoyed singing with the Melody Moms.

Betty was deeply devoted to her husband & family. She never learned to drive tractor, but she was always on call for opening gates, running folks around as they were moving equipment from field to field, driving for parts, and could whip out a sandwich and lemonade for Cecil and other field hands in a moment's notice. Cecil made sure you worked hard on the Mashino operation, and Betty made sure you'd never go hungry. Staple meals included breakfast, morning lunch, dinner, afternoon lunch, supper, and often a sweet treat before bed. You could almost always find a cinnamon roll or snickerdoodle cookie in the freezer, and chocolate candy in the cupboard or her top dresser drawer. She rarely ran low on her pop stash, especially Betty's favorite, Dr. Pepper.

Betty had a love for red cattle. She purchased many red steers over the years. Once, when Dustin had told her that she had made good money on hers, but he had broke even, she replied with a smile, "Maybe YOU should have bought red ones".

Betty enjoyed traveling. She spent some time in Germany in 1993 with her sister Rita, whose son Lonnie was stationed there. She also took many trips with her daughters and grand-daughters. Betty was a word search whiz, even up until the last year of her life. She enjoyed playing many card games, and in her later years, excelled at Bingo, where she'd rack up her stash of quarters and candy while playing in the nursing home and with her great-grandchildren. Crocheting was another favorite pastime for Betty. She made the grandchildren and great-grandchildren beautiful blankets, leaving the family with a collection she'd made for future great-grandchildren as well!

Betty, along with her husband, raised a strong Christian family. They know she's in paradise, and we will all one day be reunited.

On August 9, 2025, Betty took her last breath peacefully as Tammy played and sang to "How Great Thou Art". Survivors include: Carla (Steve) Loop, Tilden, NE, and their daughters, Lacey (Bob) Wood and daughters Aida & Lena, and Laney (James) Ferguson and daughters Emrie, Harlow & Millie; Dustin (Tammera) Mashino, Spencer, NE, and their daughters, Alix (Andrew) Ambriz and sons Zander, Isaiah, & Joshua; Jamie (Dylan) Haun and daughters Madison & Harper; Kelli (Brayden) Petersen, and Kaci Mashino; and Tammy (Brian) Weisser, Wagner, SD, and their children Bryce (Jenna) Weisser and Bridget (Riley) Berndt and son Conley. Betty's surviving sibling is Rita Goeken of O'Neill, NE.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Mashino; parents, Libby & W.A. (Bill) Hambek; great-grandson, Nathaniel Ambriz, and numerous other family members.
