Betty Jane Nichols, 89, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away July 11, 2025, at Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was born on March 2, 1936, in Sandtown, Arkansas, and was the daughter of the late David Kern and Mollie (Montgomery) Johnson.
Betty loved the Lord, growing up in the church as a Methodist pastor's daughter. At a young age was she baptized in the creek at Sandtown. In 1954 she graduated from Piggott High School and shortly afterwards on January 5, 1955, she was united in marriage to James "Jim" L. Nichols. She was a jack of all trades, working many jobs over her life. She was a talented seamstress and also loved horses. Alongside her husband, she traveled many miles in a semi tractor trailer. She was blessed to spend retirement in there fifth wheel camper in South Texas. Betty never met a stranger and became a mom to many over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ina Rae Mann.
Betty is survived by her husband, Jim Nichols; three children: Sabrina (Keith) Woolverton of Piggott, Arkansas, Sondra (Danny) Sampson of Warsaw, Kentucky, and James David (Keri) Nichols of Newport, Kentucky; grandchildren: Lindsay (Jarrod) Burch, Drew (Sierra) Woolverton, Tate (Lucy) Nichols, Savannah (Jeffrey) Eversole, Alexa Nichols, and Skylar Sampson; great-grandchildren: Carson Conwill, Harper Ramey, Zoe Woolverton, and Aiden Woolverton; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation is Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis, Arkansas, with Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Pallbearers will be Randy Potts, Darrell Galyean, Skylar Sampson, Drew Woolverton, Tate Nichols, and Keith Woolverton. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
