Betty Spain Obituary

Betty Spain died at the age of 94 on Thursday, January 30th, 2025 in Boise, Idaho. Betty was born on September 17th, 1930 in Wheelwright, Kentucky to her parents Leonard and Sadie Ryan.
After venturing out west, Betty experienced love at first sight when she bumped into Eldon Spain during his travel through Boise. They got married shortly after in 1948, settling down in southeast Boise.
After giving birth to her first child, Kathy, Betty instantly fell in love with being a mom. Over the course of the next 12 years, she had two more children, Roy and Leonard. She fueled all of their childhood adventures with her infamous fried chicken, vegetable soup and banana cake. Besides her delicious cooking and baking, her gentle spirit, kindness and active listening really made her the best mother in the world.
As her own children grew up, she fell in love with her grandchildren, spoiling them in any way she could, from ice cream dates to multi – day sleepovers. Family was always at the forefront of Betty's life as she created memories we will forever cherish.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon Spain, daughter Kathy Schafer and her husband Tim Schafer, son Roy Spain, and grandchild Aaron Spain. Betty is survived by her son Leonard Spain and his wife Angela, along with 6 grandkids and 14 great - grandkids.
All are invited to a graveside service at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens on Friday, February 21st, at 10:00 AM.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation for the excellent care Betty received in her final days at St. Luke's hospital in Meridian, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's name can be made to Alzheimer's research.
In Betty's honor, we encourage everyone to smile more, laugh harder, and love unconditionally.
