Tribute for Betty Powers Tomchick
8/28/34 – 1/9/25
Betty Tomchick entered life eternal at 6:40pm on January 9th, 2025. She was 90 years old, and was loved by all who knew her for her sweet personality, kindness, and quick wit.
Betty was born in Corry, Pennsylvania to Eugene and Edith Powers, and was the youngest of six children. After attending schools in Corry, she met and married Joseph Tomchick at the age of 20. They lived in Corry, Jamestown, Wattsburg, and then Busti, NY before moving to Southern California following Betty's sister Helen and her brother Richard's move out West. They settled in purchasing a home in Anaheim, California where they lived for 38 years and raised their four children. Betty was an impeccable seamstress, baker, cook, and homemaker for many years, and was the "steady" on Crestwood Lane where neighbors all knew and cared for each other, and watched out for each other's children. When her kids were mostly grown, Betty then went to work for the Anaheim School District putting her creative skills to work in the libraries at Dale Junior High School and Brookhurst Junior High School as well as working in the front office. After retirement, Joe and Betty moved down to Huntington Beach to a 55+ community which they loved. There was less maintenance, and a lifestyle that suited them. Betty took up painting, and had a paint studio in her home. There wasn't much she couldn't paint in the way of beautiful landscape scenes, birds, and beautiful detailed birdhouses. Betty also did a lot of volunteer work with her sister at Children's Benefit League in Long Beach, as well as the Garden Grove Assistance League, and Acacia Adult Day Services in Garden Grove. She was always there to lend a hand on anything anyone ever asked of her.
In November 2021 Betty moved into Assisted Living at Huntington Terrace in Huntington Beach. She was a loved resident there for just over three years, and was fortunate to be surrounded by so many loving staff members and residents. She also continued with her love of birds in having a room that looked out on a garden area where she had a bird bath and humming bird feeder. Squirrels also delighted in entertaining her on the patio and knew they might just get a peanut or two if Mom had family over that would feed them. She loved the activities at Huntington Terrace, especially Arts and Crafts and Bingo, as well as enjoyed many musicians that would come to entertain the residents. She was known for winning many a bingo game.
Betty is survived by her daughter Mallory Vega (Bob), daughter Cheryl Endter (Jon), son Scott Tomchick; five grandchildren Jamie (Jared) Mullins (Endter), Marissa Vega, Matthew (Tina) Endter, Christopher Vega, and Joshua (Elysse) Endter. She also is survived by seven great grandchildren – Callan and Kensie Mullins, Madeline and Minessa Endter, and Felicity, Colette, and Wren Endter. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Tomchick (2013), son Gregg Tomchick (2022), and her parents and siblings. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
