Beverly Johnson Obituary

Beverly S. Johnson, 83, of Waukon, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 6, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon. In lieu of flowers and gifts memorials are preferred.
Beverly Suzette Johnson was born on July 7, 1941, in Postville, Iowa, to Norman and Beulah (Bray) Starkey. She was baptized and confirmed at Forest Mills United Methodist Church and attended Evergreen Country School through the eleventh grade before later fulfilling a lifelong goal by earning her GED in 2009.
On September 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Dale Robert Johnson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The two shared a marriage of deep love and partnership. Beverly worked at Deco Products in Decorah and then devoted nearly four decades to Northern Engraving in Waukon.
A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Beverly was active in the Presbyterian Women's group and lived out her faith in both word and deed. She found joy in the beauty of everyday life - from tending to her flowers and baking for loved ones, to sewing quilts and collecting delicate crystal dishes. She and Dale shared a love for polka music, often traveling to attend dances and performances by Mollie B and the Toe Tappers.
Family was the center of Beverly's world. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her warmth, faith, and wisdom.
Survivors include her children: Kevin (Barb) Johnson Waukon, Brenda (Mark) Jones of Harpers Ferry, and Belva (Jeff) Wemark of Ridgeway, IA; her grandchildren: Josh Johnson, Bridget (Drew) Steinfeldt, Kannon (Corina) Grotegut, Kelli (Rick Mathis) Grotegut, Krystal (Tom Gregor) Grotegut, Leah (Mitch Regan) Jones, Ryan (Jessica) Jones, Jenna (Ronnie) Hebel, Zachary (Lauren Regan) Kerndt, Makayla (Kyle Falck) Patterson, Brayden Wemark; 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Deb Johnson of Monona; a sister, Janice Dougherty of Waukon; and sisters-in-law Kathleen Starkey, Abby Hoak, Dolores Johnson all of Waukon, and Janette Johnson of Postville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Johnson, in 2004; her parents; infant twin sons Jeffery and Greggory; son Terry Johnson; brothers Jerry, Ricke, Lynn, and Bradley Starkey; sister Marilyn Meyer; brother-in-law Ralph Dougherty; sisters-in-law Dixie Starkey and Kimberly Starkey; and nephew Patrick Dougherty.
Honorary casketbearers are Bridget Steinfeldt, Kelli Grotegut, Krystal Grotegut, Leah Jones, Jenna Hebel, Jessica Jones, Makayla Patterson, Lori Gress, and Beverly's great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Josh Johnson, Kannon Grotegut, Ryan Jones, Mitch Regan, Ronnie Hebel, Zach Kerndt and Brayden Wemark.
