Billie J. Harting, 83, loving husband, father and grandfather, died on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at his home.
Bill was born in Vincennes, Indiana on January 19, 1942, to Walter and Capitola (O'Dell) Harting. After school, he served his country in the US Army.
He worked for Westinghouse in Muncie and later he worked for Jarden Homes. In 1993 he married Jo Swartout and together they made their home in Eaton. Both Bill and Jo built their home themselves. They would camp on the property until their home was complete.
Bill enjoyed raising and caring for horses.
Surviving family include his wife of 32 years, Jo Harting; his children: David Harting, Janet Michaels and Steven Harting (Alice); sister, Jeanie Junod; stepchildren, William Modglin and James Modglin; grandchildren: Brandon Human (Mattea), Kristen Joyce (Jonathan), Joshua Harting, Zachary ;Harting, Kacie Harting, Nick Harting, step-grandson, Col Modglin; great-grandchildren: Mckenna Joyce, Elizabeth Joyce, Zayden Harting, Alice Harting, Jaxon Clark, and Kamryn Clark; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Harting and Capitola Carr; sisters: Rose Summers, Jo Ella Swan, Helen Chambers and Elsie Mae McTaggnal; brother, Jack Harting; a grandson, Christopher Human and great-granddaughter, Brylynn Human.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S Hartford St., Eaton with Chaplain Lester Turner officiating. Burial with Military Rites by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, and one hour prior to services Wednesday.
