Faith Funeral Home Inc.Billy Joe Tanner, Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 19, 2025 at the age of 87, surrounded by love and the gratitude of a life well lived. He is now resting with the Lord and we look forward to the day when we will see him once again.
Bill was born in High Point, NC, to Joseph Fletcher Tanner and Jessie Belle Solomon. He grew up with his brothers Johnny Tanner and Keith Powell.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Bill married Joan Patricia Hendrix in Jacksonville, FL, where he embarked on a distinguished career with Brink’s Inc. Rising through the ranks by virtue of hard work and quiet integrity, he was offered the role of General Manager in either Miami or Tallahassee, FL. Bill and Joan chose Tallahassee as the right place for their close-knit family and moved there in 1976.
Bill and Joan raised three children: Pamela Hollingsworth (Russel), Susan Pettis (Charles), and Joe Tanner. He will be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren: Joshua Hollingsworth (Karina), Jenna Hodges (Rob), Sarah Lynn (Reagan), Katlynn Hollingsworth, and Mathew Russi (Aubrey) - and was later blessed with fourteen great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in their laughter, character, and kindness.
A steady provider and a steadfast friend, Bill had a gift for showing up on time, prepared, and with a warm smile. He loved the fellowship of a good round of golf with friends, a friendly rivalry of a well-played game of pool and playing racquetball in his later years. Bill also enjoyed singing (Elvis and John Denver were a few of his favorites!) and had a wonderful baritone voice.
Bill’s passion as a loving father, faithful provider, and fierce friend is reflected in all who knew him, especially those closest to him. His life was a quiet testament to devotion to family, to service, and to work well done. Though we grieve his passing, we give thanks for his example and the countless ways he made our lives better.
The family invites you to join them in honoring Bill on November 10, 2025 at the Tallahassee National Cemetery at 5015 Apalachee Parkway. The processional begins at 10:40 am with the service starting promptly at 11:00 am.
