Billy A. Tryon, age 71, of Rensselaer, IN, passed away on August 12, 2024. Born on November 16, 1952, in Hammond, IN, Billy was the son of Harry and Dorothy (Christy) Tryon. He graduated from Thornton Fractional South High School and went on to earn an associate's degree in Electrical Technology from Purdue University.
Billy married Suzanne Schoenborn on July 30, 1961, in Waukegon, IL, who preceded him in death on November 25, 2023. He dedicated over 30 years to working as a self-employed truck driver, but many will remember him for his devoted service as a small engine repairman at Smith's Ace Hardware in Rensselaer. Billy also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
A lover of the outdoors, Billy enjoyed caring for his palomino horse, Connie, and fishing in his backyard pond. His family was his greatest joy, and he would do anything he could to help them. He deeply missed his wife Suzanne after her passing.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Tryon and Johnny (Christina) Tryon, both of Rensselaer; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Suzanne, two brothers, one sister, and a granddaughter, Samantha Marie.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CT at Jackson Funeral Chapel. This will be followed by a joint memorial service with military rites for Billy and Suzanne, officiated by Pastor Bill Taylor. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
