Bobby Gene James, of Covington, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 87. Mr. James was a dedicated General Motors employee for 17 years before retirement. He was a devoted member of the Baptist faith, often reminding us of his favorite saying, 'Absent from the body, present with the Lord.' Mr. James had a deep passion for playing the guitar and singing, often sharing his love for music with everyone around him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Geraldine James; sons, Ronnie James, Randy G. James; grandson, Robert Allen Heath; parents, Henry Ashbury and Louise James; and brothers, Larry Joe James, Harold James (Beverly).
Survivors include his daughter, Tammy James (David Mann); son, Terry G. James; sister, Martha Day (Larry); grandchildren, Mandy Stephens (Brandon), Carrie Hogsed (James), Teri D. Shipton, Pearl Ann Denny, Ashley N. James, Wesley Moore, Justin L. James, Kayla Jones (Cameron), Ansley James, Nicole Tillman (Kevin), Justin W. James; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. James will be held Monday, March 17, 2025, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Sunday, March 16, from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M.
