Bonnie Thomas Obituary

Our loving mother, Bonnie Frances Keating Thomas, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family at the age of 82 on August 4, 2025. Bonnie was born on November 23, 1942, to Charles Arthur and Phyllis Keating in Wallace, Idaho. Bonnie spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, teacher, and lifelong learner.

Bonnie met and married her eternal sweetheart, Richard Bert Thomas, in 1959, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1974. Together they raised seven children. Bonnie's life was filled with family gatherings, delightful books, puzzles, and creating joyful memories with those she loved most.

Bonnie was a woman full of life and an insatiable curiosity for learning. At the age of 54, she exemplified her belief in lifelong learning by earning her degree in education from Westminster College, graduating summa cum laude in 1996. She dedicated 13 years to teaching at Stansbury Elementary School, touching countless young lives with her passion for education. Her love of learning never diminished and inspired those around her.

Bonnie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She was known as a true social butterfly who could light up any room and was always the life of the party. Her strength, unconditional love, infectious laugh, and gift for making people feel special will be remembered by all who knew her.

Bonnie is survived by six of her children: Philip Tyrone Thomas, Tracey Annette Thomas, Shaunna Lynn McCleve (Douglas), Bonnie Jean Nordfelt (Shane), Mary Samantha Schreck (Tim), and Megan Christina Thomson (Shawn); 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister Patricia Bunce.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her beloved son Richard Troy Thomas, her devoted husband Richard Bert Thomas, her parents, two siblings, and a granddaughter.

A viewing in Bonnie's honor will be held Friday, August 15, 2025, at 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral at 1:30 PM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
