Margaret H. Hansen, lovingly known as Marge, was born on December 6, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY. She dedicated fifty years of her life to teaching. She loved teaching and she loved her students. Over those 50 years, she taught students in inner-city schools in New York City, St. James RC School in Basking Ridge, NJ, and at Liberty Corner School. Her passion for education was matched only by her deep devotion to her faith and family.
Marge possessed a fierce spirit; she was never one to shy away from speaking her mind, always sharing her honest truths. This authenticity shaped the lives of countless students and families. Known for her tough love, she balanced her strong will with unwavering compassion, creating a nurturing environment wherever she went. Her dedication to the Catholic Church was a cornerstone of her life, exemplifying her commitment to service and spirituality.
Her passing on July 20, 2025, came peacefully at home, surrounded by her cherished family, reflecting the love that enveloped her during her life. Marge leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith. She is survived by her beloved children, John (Mary) and Paul (Wendy), and son-in-law Mike Cooney and her adoring grandchildren, Jim (Meredith), Jack, Steven, and Maggie Cooney and Sam and Nora Hansen and her newly arrived great grandchild, Charlie, whose arrival brought her untold joy.
Marge's great faith in God allowed her to endure the loss of her beloved youngest son Steven and her daughter Annemarie Cooney; her brother, Jay Wilson; and the father of her children, John Sr. Each of these loved ones held a special place in her heart, and their memories will undoubtedly spark numerous stories shared by those who knew her.
Her hobbies and interests reflected a deep love for God, family, and country, showcasing her patriotic spirit and the values she instilled in her children and grandchildren. Marge will be remembered not only for her passion for teaching but also for her caring soul, which endeared her to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
