Boyd E. Griffon, 86, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025. Boyd was born in Sardis, OH to the late John and Nellie Griffon on June 18, 1938. He was a devoted husband to his pre-deceased wife of 65 years, Elaine and a loving father to his children Mark (and his wife, Sandra), Bonnie (Martino) and Sherri (Hogan). Boyd also adored his granddaughter, Alana Griffon.
Boyd touched the lives of many with his profound sense of humor, warmth, creativity, curiosity, and gregarious, outgoing nature. He was a generous friend and possessed an uncanny ability to connect to just about anyone. He possessed a brilliant mind, disarming wit, and an empathetic heart. He had a rare gift of building community wherever he found himself.
Upon graduation from high school, Boyd joined the U.S. Navy and was based in Lakehurst, N.J where he met his future wife. He always treasured the fact that while in the Navy, he was aboard a ship that crossed the equator.
Boyd was a man of many passions. He found joy in woodworking and spent countless hours in his workshop designing and crafting beautiful pieces of furniture and other hand-made items such as boats, toys, bowls, walking sticks, and anything else one could imagine. He was also an avid photographer, gardener, painter, camper, and baker.
Boyd's life was one of integrity, kindness, and generosity. He was a true role model, teaching his children the importance of hard work, perseverance, and compassion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the lives of Boyd and his wife, Elaine will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Old Tenant Church Cemetery in Manalapan, NJ.
The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
