Mrs. Brenda (Dodson) Casteel, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 9th, 2025 at her home. She was born in Newport, Arkansas, on May 12, 1943, to Monroe and Ruby (Wiles) Dodson of Jacksonport, Arkansas.
Brenda was married to the love of her life, John O. Casteel, for 65 years. Together, they built a life full of love, faith, and family. She was a devoted member of Central Missionary Baptist Church in Newport where she served faithfully through the years as Secretary, Clerk, Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher and director. She also had a passion for the Performing Arts and performed in several local plays. She was appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee to serve on the Arkansas Arts Council Board.
Mrs. Brenda enjoyed cooking/baking for family & others; gardening, volunteering, sewing, writing/journaling, singing, and listening to gospel music. She also loved her country and was an active member of the Republican Party of Arkansas where she served at the state and local level for many years. What brought her the most joy; however, was spending time with her family and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her Mamaw.
Brenda will be remembered as a Godly wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted friend. Her legacy of love, grace, service, and wisdom will be passed on through the generations. She will be missed by those who were blessed by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Cecil Foushee, her brother, Anthony "Andy" Dodson, her great grandson, Judson Poppy and her daughter-in-law, Anita Casteel.
She is survived by her husband of the home, John O. Casteel; her sons, John A. Casteel of Batesville, and Stephen Casteel (Candie) of Newport; her daughters, Sharon Gates (Anthony) of Tuckerman and Donna Casteel of Newport; her brothers, Marcus Dodson (Mary) of Jacksonport and Neal Dodson of Newport; her sisters, Margaret Blevins of Bradford and Mona Eddington of Jacksonville; sisters-in-law, Cynthia McClain of Cabot and Linda Casteel of Cabot; her grandchildren, Heather Poppy (Micheal) of Sherwood, Amy Winfree (Eli) of Rogers, Brooke Ward (Casey) of Sheridan, Daniel Marlar (Emily) of Jonesboro, Clay Marlar (Kacey) of Swifton, Lindsey Marlar of Tuckerman, John Casteel of Jonesboro, Skylit Casteel of Newport and Cruz Casteel of Newport; great-grandchildren, Darcy Casteel of Rogers, Aiden Winfree of Rogers, Miles Poppy of Sherwood, McKinsley Davis of Tuckerman, June Ward of Sheridan, Jessa Marlar of Jonesboro, and Keagen Marlar of Swifton, as well as, many nieces, nephews and sister-friend Dutchie Wilson.
