Mr. Bud Bare, age 87, of West Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Ashe County on September 7, 1937, to the late Roger Bare and Ida Virginia Johnson Bare. He graduated in 1955 from Jefferson High School and in 1957 married his wife of 52 years, Nell Raye.

Bud had a sixty-year career as a house mover, first with his father then in partnership with his brother, at Bare Brother's House Movers, and subsequently founded Bare Enterprises. He was known as a hard worker who took pride in a job well done and was dedicated to providing for his family and serving his community. He was also a proud member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Blake Smarr officiating. Burial will follow at Burkett Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nell Raye Duvall Bare; one brother, Bill Bare; and three sisters: Dorothy Dean Honeycutt, Evelynn Lyons, and Joanna Head.

Bud is survived by two sons: Kirk Bare (Sheryl) of Pinehurst, NC, and Michael Bare (Patti) of Waxhaw, NC; five grandchildren (Will, Laura, Nicholas, Jordan, and Cameron); three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
