C. Smagor Obituary

C. David Smagor, 52, of Yorkville, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Lovingly called Schmoo by his family and close friends, he was the beloved husband of Anita, née Weingartner, loving father of Annaliese; beloved son of the late Charles "Bud" Smagor and Dolores, née Soltis, Smagor; son in law of Edelgard and the late Friedrich Weingartner; dear brother of Shari (Scott) Vasko, brother-in-law to Elizabeth (Jay) Greifenkamp; uncle to Justin, Veronica, Kayla, Sydney, and Jonah.
David was born on November 24, 1972. He attended Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, where he enjoyed playing on the football team. In 1995, he graduated from Loras College, where he was a proud Sigma Phi Epsilon brother and a passionate history major.
At Loras he met the love of his life, Anita. They joined an exclusive group of Loras Sweethearts, (students who marry after meeting on campus). This June they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. Together they raised their beautiful daughter, Annaliese.
David had a 30-year career in sales, and he found a great match at Crane Nuclear, a team that felt like family. He enjoyed building relationships with customers and mentoring account managers, earning several sales performance awards.
Some of David's favorite memories are from family fishing trips in Wisconsin. He had a passion for history - including the history of Disney parks - music, reading, and most of all spending time with family and friends. His greatest joy was watching Annaliese perform in choir, color guard, and theater productions. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears season ticket holder, making memories with family and friends at Soldier Field.
David will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, grandparents, and father-in-law.
A Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church, 501 Oak Brook Road, Oak Brook, IL on Wednesday, July 16 at 11:00AM with Visitation prior starting at 9:00AM. Reverend Rick Glyman will be officiating.
