Calvin Gail Sweet, age 87, of Edison, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on April 10, 1938 in a barn made into a house in Artesian, South Dakota to Orville H. and Marie (Breen) Sweet.
Calvin served in the U.S. Army for 5 years and then worked in a variety of professions including electrical, management of his mother’s gas station, mechanics, carpentry, housing and road construction, until he became military disabled. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and raising his dogs, including “Kinda” who was 21 years old when she passed away.
His marriage to Lois Otterpohl gave him six children. He married Mary Jane Guerue on February 23, 1999 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Mary Jane, of Edison, Nebraska, 3 sons Orville (Mollie) Sweet of Parkston, South Dakota, Oran (Amy) Sweet of Mount Vernon, SD, Otto Sweet, 3 daughters, Charolette (Scott) Suess, Dickinson, North Dakota, Connie Atwood, Sioux Falls, SD, and Caroline (Jarrell) Grimes of Mitchell, SD, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Marvin & Marlyn Herron, sister Gladys (Paul) Schmidt, Grandson Calvin P. Sweet, son-in-law Dave McBrayer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
