Carl Lynn Ernst was born on August 27, 1950, in Cleburne, Texas, and raised in Glen Rose. He went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2025, after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's and a mercifully short decline in his final weeks.

Carl met the love of his life, Barbara Anne Nixon, at the University of Texas in Austin, where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics and an MBA. He became a "bean counter" (CPA) and, after a few years in accounting, began working for the Bass family in Fort Worth in 1980. He enjoyed a fulfilling 36-year career there before retiring in 2016.

Carl and Barbara married on December 21, 1973, and together raised two sons, Weston and Travis. They were faithful members of Lake Arlington Baptist Church (now Lake Church) for more than 25 years, where Carl served in Bible studies and on the church's finance team.

He loved golf, but more often could be found coaching soccer, driving kids to practices, or cheering from freezing bleachers in the middle of January. His greatest joy, however, was not in hobbies but in faithfully loving his wife, leading his family, and reflecting the love of Christ to everyone around him. Even in his final years, the glory of God working in him was evident, as he ministered in word and deed to workers and residents at his memory care facility.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara; his sons, Weston (Stephanie) of Breckenridge, CO, and Travis (Ashley) of Celina, TX; and his beloved grandchildren Barrett, Braydon, Giles, Ava, Audrey, and Liam. He is also survived by many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Inez Ernst.

Carl will be remembered as a man of integrity who loved and pursued the Lord wholeheartedly. His life was a testimony to the glory of God working in him-seen in the way he loved his Savior, his wife, his children and grandchildren, and all those God placed in his path. The family is especially grateful to the many caregivers who, with patience and compassion, cared for Carl in his final years.

Graveside services will be held at 10am. Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at Squaw Creek Cemetery in Glen Rose.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in the main sanctuary of Lake Church in Arlington, Texas, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lake Church or Samaritan's Purse, two ministries Carl deeply valued.

I remember Carl as I was growing up in Glen Rose. I was a bit younger but remember him being faithful and active in church.he was always happy and kind to all. My dad was one of his Sunday school teachers as a youngster. Carl was an only child but back then we all considered each other our " kin"! Ha! He was always in a great mood and never down. His class at school consisted of many that were smart and outstanding. I do remember a group of them all going to UT! I wondered how they would find their way around that large campus. They all managed and excelled ! I´m sure he was a great husband Barbara and wonderful dad to your sons. He will be missed in your lives but made a great impression as well as memories!
Sincerely,
Tamara English Vaughn
