Carl Wayne Wilder, age 71, of Ewing, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Claiborne Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tazewell, TN. He was born in Pineville, KY on August 12, 1953, to the late Lee and Hazel Miracle Wilder.
Carl was a man who possessed a strong work ethic, evidenced by his reluctance to retire until health issues required it. He had a special talent for building things and was considered a master carpenter. Carl was a Civil War buff. He took great pride in participating in Civil War reenactments. He was the Captain of the 37th Virginia Infantry Co. E. He was also a longtime member of Elydale Primitive Baptist Church in Ewing, VA.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Hazel Miracle Wilder.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Lorine Wilder; son, Lucas (Kristy) Wilder, brother Bobby Dean Wilder; nephews, Bobby Lee Wilder and Shane Wilder; special mother-in-law, Lucy Bailey; brothers-in-law, Harold (Linda) Bailey, Steve (Tammy) Bailey, Lester (Linda) Bailey, Carl (Tammy) Bailey and C.F. (Sheila) Bailey; sisters-in-law, Alene (Charles) Chadwell, Pauline (Charlie) Brooking, Rosie (Mike) Crockett, and Sally (Shawn) Sexton; and two step-grandchildren, Charlie and Cooper as well as a host of other family and friends.
The family of Carl Wayne Wilder will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the Elydale Primitive Baptist Church, Ewing, VA with Elder Ricky Dorton presiding. Music will be provided by the Elydale Primitive Baptist Church singers.
At the conclusion of the funeral service, family and friends will gather at the Old Bailey Cemetery, Ewing, VA where graveside services will be held. His brothers-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
