Carmen Louis Vastano, a beloved resident of Vineland, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at Vineland Inspira Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old. Born on May 24, 1935, to the late Louis Vastano and Emelia (Matarozzi) Vastano, Carmen lived a life marked by love, family, and service.
Carmen was a devoted husband to Louise (Amico) Vastano for 37 years. Together, they built a life full of laughter and treasured moments in Vineland. A skilled glassblower by trade, Carmen took great pride in his work before retiring.
Carmen honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Carmen especially enjoyed playing Scrabble with Louise and visiting casinos with her and their close friends, even if he didn`t always win at either-it was the good times that mattered most. His sharp sense of humor made him the perfect audience for Louise`s endless supply of jokes. He also had a unique knack for choosing the funniest and most fitting greeting cards for every occasion, a thoughtful gesture that brought laughter and warmth to those he cared about.
An avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles, Carmen never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams. However, family was his true passion. Nothing brought him more joy than supporting his children and grandchildren in their pursuits-whether attending their sports games, applauding their performances, or serving as the ultimate "judge" in spirited games of "Red Light, Green Light." Carmen`s presence was a constant source of joy and encouragement.
Carmen`s humor, kindness, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him. His warm smile and gentle heart will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and laughter will forever inspire those fortunate enough to know him.
Carmen was predeceased by his parents and several beloved in-laws. He is survived by his loving wife Louise; his children Andrea Mazzoni (Paul), Louis Vastano (Valerie), David Vastano, Rosalie Frederick (John), Carlo Gentiletti, Lauri Andreacchio (Robert), and Lisa Salvini; his cherished grandchildren Camille Ortiz, Sierra Andino (Jeffrey), Shane Vastano, Luke Vastano, Elisa Oristaglio (Vinny), Ayla Christy (Blake), Angela Frederick, Tabitha Gentiletti, Chiara Andreacchio, Valentina Salvini, and Dante Andreacchio; as well as his great-grandchildren Juan "LJ" Ortiz, Giada Andino, and Palmer Andino. Carmen also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will forever treasure his memory.
Information about Carmen's celebration of life will be shared at a later date.
