Carol Jean (Smith) Shipley was born on a farm in rural Dolliver, Iowa on February 21, 1931, the oldest child of Loyal R. and Emma A (Ziemer) Smith. She passed away on September 17, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 94 years.
Carol graduated from Estherville High School in 1950 and then attended Omaha Technical College. Carol was united in marriage to Rolland Shipley on August 27, 1950 in Estherville, while he was home on leave from the United States Army. The couple made their home in Estherville and various cities in Iowa. Carol was employed in the banking industry for most of her working years; working at Emmet County State Bank for 18 years, Hawkeye Bank for 19 years, and then at United Federal Savings for seven years retiring in 1994. Following retirement Carol and Rolland returned to Estherville.
Carol was very active in the community. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, where she served on church council, Ladies Guild and Circle, and with Stewardship. She was the Spencer Zone President and also served as treasurer for the LWML. WaTanYe had a special place in her heart. She was also active in the Good Samaritan Society Auxiliary. Carol enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Corinne Frad and her husband, Jeff of Grandview, Iowa; two granddaughters, Laura Lansing (Alex) and Carrie Frad; great granddaughters, Cora, Adalinn, and Sybil Lansing; sister, Lavonne Kirk; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rolland in 2014, her daughter Rhonda, her infant sister Lucille Smith, and her brothers Larry and Frank Smith.

We loved visiting with Aunt Carol. Such a bright, interesting and loving woman. We will never forget her beautiful soul. Our heart goes out to Aunt Lavonne, Corinne and the extended family. Sending much love and to you all and wish we could be there in person. Julie, Shelly and Lisa
