Carolyn Downing Obituary

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Carolyn Jean Downing, age 82, of Centerville, Indiana, died Monday, June 23, 2025, at home.
Born July 3, 1942, in Centerville, Indiana, to Wilbur H. and Evrone Amelia Wesler Hawkins, Carolyn was a life-long resident of this area. She was a graduate of Centerville High School. Carolyn worked several places in town, Natco, MTS, Auto Auction, and Warm Glow Candle Company, where she had been for over 20 years. She also enjoyed volunteering at Reid Health.
Carolyn was an avid reader, loved vacationing at the beach, and was always dressed to perfection. She was a fabulous cook and made the best homemade ice cream. Carolyn was a life member of Sigma Gamma Phi Sorority, Alpha Omega Chapter. The most important thing to Carolyn was spending time with her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, and Nana.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Bill Downing, to whom she was married on February 28, 1960; son, Bret; grandchildren, Brittany Downing, Taylor (Erika) Downing, and Olivia (Daniel) Downing; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Harper, and Maddox Downing, and Breighlynn Corbett; sisters, Sharon Jenkins and Kate Byrley; brother, Rusty Hawkins; and her loving dog, Bella.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Barry; and an infant daughter.
Visitation for Carolyn Jean Downing will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2025, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
