Stanberry, MO: Carolyn Kay Madden, 80, Stanberry, MO passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at a Stanberry, MO nursing home.
She was born on June 29, 1944, in Fresno, CA the daughter of Vernon Robert and Helen Louise (Graham) Whittle.
On August 14, 1965, she married Kenneth Madden at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Maryville, MO. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2025.
Carol graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1965. She worked at Sisters Hospital St. Joseph, helped Dr. Tenorio open his office, assisted in starting Hands of Hope Hospice at Mosaic, was a home health nurse for Northwest Medical Center, and was the nurse manager at Conception Abbey. She also volunteered at Pineview Manor. She was a strong Catholic who was very close with the Abbey.
Carol was known for her baked burritos, taco dip, sour cream raisin pie, and apple dumplings. If you were to show up at her house, she would always have a chocolate ice cream bar ready. She loved to sew, go on ranger rides, Irish music, and she especially loved her grandchildren and her dogs.
In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Kameron Ty Wallace; and a brother, Gregory Vernon Whittle.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Treston) Wallace, Stanberry, MO, Kristy (Mike) Kassebaum, Papillion, NE; sons, Danny (J.J.) Madden, California, Ryan Madden, Omaha, NE; sister, Scheryl (Ken) Trolinger, Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Alex Runde, Taylor Wallace, Jacob Madden, Annie Madden, Joseph Madden, Emily Madden, Kensey Kassebaum, Karsyn Kassebaum, Nolan Kassebaum, Olive Madden, Finn Madden, and Vivian Madden; and great grandchildren, Parker Runde, Daisy Runde, Lexi Runde, Evan Runde, Grace Ford and Tymber Ford.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Stanberry, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Stanberry, MO. Parish Rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends until 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kameron Ty Wallace Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 153, Stanberry, MO 64489.
