Carroll Leland Matheny, 86, of East Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully with family by his side at 11:53 am on Monday, April 28, 2025 at The Loft Rehab of East Peoria.
He was born on August 14, 1938, in Carbondale, IL, to Arvel T. and Clarissa E. (Tripp) Matheny. He married Sandra Daniel in 1965, and later married Shirley.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley of East Peoria; daughters, Dorinda (Steve) Christopher of Peoria and Deborah Waldschmidt of East Peoria; step-children, Bruce (Wendy) and Tammy (Roger); grandchildren, Devon (Codie) Latham, Kyle Waldschmidt, and Jacob Fox; step-grandchildren, Ashley (Billy), Stephanie (Justin), Chris and Amber; great-grandchildren, Madison, Chase, and Aurora; step-great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Preston, Roman, Wyatt, and Lily; sisters, Rosemary Hodson and Janie Giosta both of Pekin, IL, Linda Davis of Lake City, AR, and Kay Courtway of Spring Bay, IL; sisters-in-law Deb Matheny and Bobbi Pearson-Matheny; and many nieces and nephews.

Carroll had a great love for his country, serving in the U.S. Army as a young man. He was a hardworking man. He worked at Caterpillar as a power truck operator, retiring in 1997. While employed at CAT he owned and operated Matheny's Lawn Service for several years. After retiring, he worked for Spring Bay Township.
He was a devoted father raising two daughters on his own. He took them to church often, he enjoyed roller skating with them at a local skating rink, and taking them on vacations. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. His family was his treasure.
He was a selfless man. He lent a helping hand to those in need, checked in on friends and family. He remained close to the Daniel family, who knew him as "Mick". He grew a large garden every year and shared vegetables with others. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and old cars. Carroll leaves a legacy of selflessness, humility, respect, and love. He will be remembered for the great man that he was.
The family would like to thank the Transitions Hospice team and the staff at The Loft for their kindness and care they gave to dad, along with Nurse Michelle, CNA Holly, and Jane the receptionist for their compassion and truly going above and beyond in caring for Carroll.
