Catherine "Cathy" M. Larson, 80, of Columbus passed from this life at her home on June 5, 2025, at 9:41 a.m.
Born on November 19, 1944, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the daughter of Darold J. and Mabel M. Boos Meyer. Her journey through life was marked by a symphony of love, teaching, and a deep-seated passion for music that resonated in the hearts of all who knew her.
Cathy's life was adorned with the love of family. On May 30, 1987, she married Gordon J. Larson, with whom she shared 38 wonderful years. Survivors include her husband, Gordon J. Larson of Columbus; sons, Michael D. Brown of Columbus and Dan F. (Rhianna) Brown of Clarksville, Tennessee; step-children, Bruce W. (Dana) Larson of Hoover, Alabama and Suzi L. (Chuck) Miller of Springfield, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet (Rich) Huffman and Debbie (Mark) Fry, brother-in-law, John Byers, and her adored dog, Miles, affectionately known as "The Monster."
Cathy graduated from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado with a degree in Music and Elementary Education. She inspired the community with her dedication as a piano teacher for over 38 years. Her influence on many budding musicians was profound and long-lasting. Cathy was a member of Westside Community Church and Chapter DN of P.E.O. International.
Her love for music was immeasurable; from playing the accordion to being a self-taught pianist, Cathy filled countless lives with melody. Her musical journey included playing at various churches she attended, playing at the Elks Lodge in Ogallala, Nebraska where she not only drew in crowds with her playing a few times a month but was also an integral part of the "Over the Hill Gang" she would bring immense joy to the "Front Street" gatherings in Nebraska with her captivating performances.
Cathy will be gracefully remembered for her loving and kind spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Tammy L. Brown in December 2014; and her sister, Mary Byers. Yet, her legacy lives on – a melody that continues to play in the hearts of those she touched.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers of Gentiva Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care provided to Cathy in her final days.
Cathy's life was a masterpiece of love, teaching, and music, and though her physical presence will be deeply missed, the harmony of her essence will forever echo through the lives of her beloved family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Dennis W. Aud officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at the funeral home.
In memory of Cathy memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to Westside Community Church Building Fund.
