Charles Eeckhout Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 8, 2025.
Charles "Chuck" Van Eeckhout (88). Feb 3, 1937 - July 5, 2025. Northfield MN
The second child to Ed and Rose Van Eeckhout, Chuck was born in Drake, ND on February 3, 1937. He studied Civil Engineering at South Dakota State University, and after graduation worked first for the State of Minnesota Department of Transport, and then ran a very successful home building/contractor business, Van Eeckhout Homes, until his retirement.
Chuck met his beloved wife of 58 years, Sue (Schilling) at a local ski club and they married in 1963 and were together until her death in 2021.
Aside from his thriving construction company, Chuck loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, both in Canada, and at their cabins on Leech Lake and Gull Lake. When he and Sue retired to her home town of Northfield, he became active in the local senior center Bridge Club, and continued to grow a large garden known for its tomatoes, pumpkins and raspberries. He also volunteered for a local road and planning committee, and was an avid Vikings and Twins fan.
Friends and family will remember his wonderful sense of humor, intelligence, and sage advice.
Chuck is survived by his three children - Julie (Peter), Greg, and David (Melinda) and three grandchildren, Iris, Baker and Rachel. He was preceded in death by wife Sue and grandson Ezra.
Funeral Mass to be held at St Dominic Catholic Church in Northfield, MN on Friday, July 11, at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior from 10-11am. Lunch and interment to follow.
The family wishes to thank Three Links, Tom and the team at Allina Hospice, and his companion Dolores for the love and care that they showed him in his last years.
